The Palm Springs Desert Sun: Recognizing he was playing an Indian casino, even though he said he had never heard of Coachella, [comedian Dave Chappelle] discussed his first encounter with Indians in New Mexico. Trying to impress them with his schooling, he told one Navajo, "You’re a hunter and gatherer!" When the Navajo said he thought he was "an alcoholic," Chappelle celebrated him as a guy to party with. Then he boasted that the tribe let him sleep in a teepee. But, in a comic twist essential to the craft, he said that was actually messed up because "they were sleeping in houses!" |  |
