Everyone send good wishes to Phil Hogen (Oglala Sioux), the chairman of the National Indian Gaming
Commission because he isn't feeling well. He was fine at the Western Indian Gaming Conference in Palm Springs, California, last week but Norm Des Rosiers, the vice chairman of NIGC, said Hogen was discharged from the hospital yesterday.
So Des Rosiers testified today at the House Natural
Resources Committee field hearing on NIGC's regulations in Miami, Oklahoma. Everyone is there so you should be too.
UPDATE: The NIGC just sent out a press release, stating that Hogen, 63, experienced a "mild stroke" at his home in South Dakota on Sunday. "Hogen attributed the incident to high blood pressure, and explained he'd been skiing on Sunday, and splitting firewood at his home in the Black Hills prior to experiencing some difficulty with perception, when he sought medical advice," the statement said. "He
anticipates a full recovery and plans to return to the commission's Washington,
DC office next week, where he will resume his duties."
