Petition mulled to defeat Okla. gaming compact bill

printer friendly
Oklahoma State Rep. Forrest Claunch, a Republican, wants to take his opposition to a tribal compact bill to the public.

Claunch, chairman of Oklahomans for Good Government, says he is considering a statewide petition on the bill. He would have to gather a minimum of 51,781 signatures of registered voters within 90 days after the end of the legislative session in May.

SB 553, the Tribal-State Gaming Act, is ready for Gov. Brad Henry's signature but won't go into effect until 90 days after the end of the session because it failed an emergency vote in the House. Henry pushed heavily for passage of the bill, which requires tribes to share revenues from certain electronic casino machines.
