Editorial: NIGC finally acted on Seminole Tribe

printer friendly
The Lakeland Ledger welcomes the National Indian Gaming Commission's decision to "do something about the Seminole Tribe of Florida's casinos-gone-wild operation."

NIGC Chairman Phil Hogen has threatened to shut down the tribe's casinos if the tribe doesn't follow federal law. "It's important to keep Seminole gambling in check, for it is used as an argument to allow casino operations across the state," the paper says.

Now if only the U.S. Attorney in Florida would do something about those machines, the paper says. NIGC claims the machines are illegal without a tribal-state compact. Florida refuses to negotiate a compact.
