Republicans threaten to end slot machines for tribes

printer friendly
Two Republican lawmakers in Minnesota are introducing a bill to force tribes to renegotiate their gaming compacts or lose their right to operate slot machines.

Rep. Jim Knoblach and Sen. Tom Neuville say tribes need to share revenues with the state. "The point is that either of these, getting rid of the slots or renegotiation, is better than what we've got now," Knoblach told The Minneapolis Star Tribune.

The bill also seeks to stop tribes from seeking off-reservation trust lands. The state governor is usually required to approve these types of acquisitions.
