printer friendly
Officials in Maryland and Pennsylvania say they are tired of seeing residents gamble in New Jersey, West Virginia, Delaware and New York. So efforts are underway to legalize some form of gaming in the two states.

In Maryland, Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. (R) and other Republicans are supporting 15,500 slot machines at six locations to bring nearly $900 million a year from the machines by 2007. In Pennsylvania, Gov. Edward G. Rendell (D) is wants to authorize 36,000 slot machines at 12 sites. Some Democrat lawmakers want a set aside for two Delaware tribes from Oklahoma that have ancestral ties to the state and are seeking gaming rights.
