Tribes eye property between two casinos in Conn.

printer friendly
A company with ties to a newly recognized tribe is one of 20 developers eyeing a coveted piece of property between two tribal casinos in Connecticut.

The president of International Golf Group also heads a firm that helped fund the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation's successful bid for federal recognition. The tribe, whose federal status is under appeal, has expressed an interest in a casino.

But the state has imposed a restriction on the sale of the former Norwich Hospital property, which sits between two existing casinos. The state won't allow the land to be taken into trust.

The Mohegan Tribe, already federally recognized, is also interested in the hospital site.
