Ho-Chunk Nation seeks suburban Chicago casino

printer friendly
The Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin announced plans on Monday to build an off-reservation casino in a suburb of Chicago.

The 432-acre facility is being billed as the largest gaming facility in the country. The tribe plans a hotel, water park, movie theater, museum and casino with 3,000 slot machines and 100 table games. The project is expected to cost between $700 to 800 million.

Rep. Jesse Jackson (D-Illinois) said he would introduce legislation to approve the project, thereby bypassing the normal procedure for off-reservation land acquisitions. The tribe would still need to negotiate a Class III compact with the state.
