Anti-tribal gaming initiative to stay on California ballot

printer friendly
An anti-tribal gaming initiative will stay on the November ballot in California barring future legal challenges.

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and another group of tribes asked the state Supreme Court to remove the initiative from the ballot. But the court refused, for the second time, to hear the case.

A group of card clubs and racetracks wants to force tribes to pay 25 percent of their slot revenues to the state, If the tribes refuse, of if the Bureau of Indian Affairs rejects the arrangement, the card clubs and tracks would be able to operate slot machines.
