Tribal contributions to states up 30 percent

Tribal gaming revenues grew by 12 percent last year while contributions to states and local governments grew by 30 percent, Jodi Rave Lee reports.

Tribes with casinos took in a record $16.2 billion in 2003, according to estimates from the Analysis Group. At the same time, tribes gave $759 million to states last year, up from $583 million.

Despite the growth nationwide, some tribes saw smaller gains. Eight tribes in Montana saw $14.9 million in revenues last year, up just 3.9 percent, according to the analysis.

On the other hand, some tribes saw record increases. New casinos in New York led to an increase of 117 percent.
