California GOP opposes tribal gaming initiative

printer friendly
The California Republican Party voted on Sunday to oppose an Indian gaming initiative endorsed by most tribes in the state.

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians is sponsoring Proposition 70. It would allow tribes to operate more than 2,000 slot machines under 99-year compacts. The California Nations Indian Gaming Association is backing the initiative.

The Agua Caliente Band doesn't expect the GOP's stance to hurt the campaign. Chairman Richard Milanovich, a Republican, was at the party's convention but did not speak on the issue, The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported.
