Editorial: Vote no on tribe's gaming initiative

printer friendly
"Although California is experiencing a budgetary crisis, the state's fiscal answers do not lie in mandating the potential revenue from taxing Indian casinos on their gambling income.

Expansions of these casinos would ultimately result in more traffic congestion, pollution and sewage problems, so important considerations in the environmental impact reports must be made. Local governments would lose the majority of control in negotiating with Indian tribes if Proposition 70 passes.

The governor's compact with the California Indian tribes should remain unaltered until a fairer modification is created."
