Stillaguamish Tribe's wait pays off with casino

printer friendly
The Stillaguamish Tribe of Washington opened the doors to its first casino last night and saw large crowds.

The tribe experienced some difficulties in getting the casino off the ground. The tribe spent nearly $9 million to relocate tribal members who had been living on the casino site.

The original backers of the casino dropped out after being told to submit to state background checks. Some of the executives were linked to a union fund under indictment in Michigan.

Some tribal members and neighbors also opposed the facility.
