Nebraska voters reject both gaming initiatives

printer friendly
Final tallies show that voters in Nebraska rejected two ballot initiatives that would have allowed tribes to offer Class III gaming.

Amendment 3 was rejected by 65 percent of voters while Initiative 417 was rejected by a slight majority. Supporters of tribal gaming said they were disappointed with the outcome but some said voters haven't been given the right options.

Two of Nebraska's four tribes already offer Class II gaming in the state while another is planning a bingo hall. The tribes said they would have expanded their facilities if either initiative passed.

Two of the tribes, the Winnebago and the Omaha, have Class III operations in Iowa that compete with other non-Indian gaming facilities.
