printer friendly
Minnesota tribes with casinos gave about $550,000 to state candidates and political action committees last year, according to a new report from the Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board.

The tribes gave largely to the Democratic party. John McCarthy, the executive director of the Minnesota Indian Gaming Association, said the contributions were a response to the negative attacks by Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) and Republican lawmakers.

The largest tribal donor was the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community with $206,025 in contributions. The Lower Sioux Mdewakanton Tribe was next with $103,950. The Prairie Island Indian Community was third with $95,842.
