Lytton Band unveils scaled-back casino plan

The Lytton Band of Pomo Indians unveiled plans on Wednesday for a scaled-back casino in the Bay Area.

Chairwoman Margie Mejia promised that the facility in San Pablo "will be in good taste." She said, "It will not look like a Las Vegas-style casino."

The revised plan calls for a 342,000 square-foot casino, down from 600,000 square-feet earlier proposed. The facility would be two stories instead of three and would not include a nightclub, theater, concert hall or convention center.

The tribe signed a compact with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) for 5,000 slot machines but that number is now being reduced to 2,500 machines. The tribe already has an agreement with the city of San Pablo, whose leaders support the casino.

The California Nations Indian Gaming Association is opposing the off-reservation casino. Other opponents say it will increase traffic, crime and other problems.
