Florida tribes buoyed by vote on slot machines

printer friendly
Florida's two federally recognized tribes are convinced Class III gaming is on the way to their casinos now that voters in Broward County approved slot machines.

The Seminole Tribe is still deciding how to proceed, said general counsel Jim Shore. But he said the tribe will definitely get to offer the same types of machines as the county.

The Miccosukee Tribe has already asked for a Class III gaming compact but has not heard back from Gov. Jeb Bush (R) yet. Bush campaigned against the slot initiative, which was defeated in Miami-Dade County.

State lawmakers must now decide what kind of slot machines that are allowed in Broward County.
