Jena Choctaw attorney says casino on the way

An attorney for the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians says the state of Louisiana has agreed to a casino in Creola.

Jena Chief Christine Norris met with Gov. Kathleen Blanco (D) and other state officials to discuss the plan, attorney Julie Wilkerson said. A compact still has to be worked out.

The Jena Band has been trying to get approval for a casino but has been stymied by efforts from church groups and Sen. David Vitter (R-Louisiana), a former Congressman. The anti-Jena campaign was organized by disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff on behalf of his client, the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana.
