Ohio governor still won't meet with Oklahoma tribe

printer friendly
Ohio Gov. Bob Taft (R) says he won't meet with an Oklahoma tribe seeking to build off-reservation casinos in the state.

Taft says he is opposed to any form of gaming. He says voters would have to amend the state constitution to allow it, and he doesn't see that happening in the near future.

The Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma is eyeing up to nine sites throughout the state for casinos. Land deals and agreements with at least three municipalities have been signed. Representatives of the tribe will be at a statewide gaming summit today.
