Leech Lake Band won't support deal with racetrack

printer friendly
The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe said it will not support plans to merge a proposed state-tribal off-reservation casino with a racetrack in the Twin Cities.

Leech Lake Chairman George Goggleye said a merger with the "racino" will not benefit the tribe. He said the tribe will stick to the original proposal to open a casino in partnership with the state.

The Red Lake and White Earth bands of Ojibwe have not said whether they will merge their proposal with the racino but tribal leaders indicated it would be a tough sell.
