Minnesota casino plan pulled amid lack of support

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty's controversial plan to authorize two casinos in the Twin Cities fell apart on Tuesday when supporters realized they didn't have the votes.

The bill was pulled indefinitely from the House Taxes Committee. Three lawmakers reportedly switched their votes.

Pawlenty (R) wanted open two casinos at the Canterbury Park racetrack. One would be in partnership with the White Earth Band of Ojibwe while the other would be a non-Indian casino owned by Canterbury Park.

The deal faced opposition from Democrats, some Republicans and the Minnesota Indian Gaming Association, which represents nine gaming tribes.
