Firm takes Morongo Band to court over casino spat

printer friendly
The firm that runs high-end casino restaurants and clubs has sued the Morongo Band of Mission Indians in California.

The N9NE Group accuses the tribe of illegally shutting down its restaurants and clubs at the Morongo Casino Resort and Spa. The lawsuit also says the tribe took the group's property, including a wine cellar.

The tribe responded by saying it cannot be sued in federal court. The lease between the tribe and N9NE allows a limited waiver of sovereign immunity only after going through arbitration.

N9NE runs high-end establishments at the Palms casino in Las Vegas. The tribe brought in the firm to attract a younger, hipper clientele to its $250 million resort.
