Maine governor vetoes tribal slot machine bill

printer friendly
As expected, Maine Gov. John Baldacci (D) on Thursday vetoed a bill to allow the Passamaquoddy Tribe to open a race track with slot machines.

The decision prompted Passamaquoddy Rep. Frederick Moore to ask state lawmakers to put the tribal racino on the November ballot. Last year, voters approved slot machines at non-Indian tracks.

The racino would be operated by the Passamaquoddy Tribe but revenues would be distributed to the state's other tribes.
