Indian gaming industry grew by 12 percent in 2004

The Indian gaming industry grew by 12 percent in 2004, generating $19 billion in revenues, according to the annual Indian Gaming Industry Report [Web Site].

California tribes brought in the most revenues, reporting $5.3 billion last year, Alan Meister, an economist with the Analysis Group said. Connecticut was second, with $2.2 billion in revenues. Arizona was third, with $1.5 billion in revenues.

The report was based on estimates and information on 405 casinos operated by 228 tribes in 30 states. Tribes with casinos employed 539,000 people and paid $19.4 billion in wages, according to the analysis. They also generated $6.2 billion in tax revenues to state, federal and local governments.
