Developer offers $600M for off-reservation casino

printer friendly
A shopping mall developers backing the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma is offering $600 million over 20 years for an off-reservation casino in New York.

Thomas C. Wilmot wants to pay $20 million a year to Ulster County and $10 million to the village of Saugerties. The casino would be located in Saugerties at the site of the 1994 Woodstock concert.

Local officials have already come out against the proposal. Ulster County lawmakers adopted a resolution that bars the county from entering into any gaming deals without the approval of the host community.
