Cheyenne-Arapahos seek bill for Colorado casino

printer friendly
The Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma are hoping to bypass the state and the Interior Department and go directly to Congress for approval of a casino in Pueblo, Colorado.

Developer Steve Hillard says the tribes are asking Congress for help because the state and federal approval process moves too slowly. "Congress can do whatever it wants," he told The Denver Post.

But no one within the Colorado Congressional delegation appears willing to take up the bill. Sen. Wayne Allard (R) opposes the casino unless it is approved by state voters. Sen. Ken Salazar (D) "remains skeptical," a spokesperson told the paper. Rep. John Salazar (D), who represents Pueblo, is undecided.
