Chippewa Cree Tribe scales back casino plans

printer friendly
The Chippewa Cree Tribe of Montana has scaled back plans for a casino and hotel on the Rocky Boy's Reservation in response to proposed restrictions to the Indian gaming industry.

The tribe had proposed a 30,000-square-foot facility that would cost $13 million and include 350 machines and a 65-room hotel. The tribe will now build a facility half the size but with the same number of machines and the same number of hotel rooms. The project will cost $9 million.

Tribal leaders and the tribe's gaming partner said proposed legislation would limit the types of Class II games they can operate. The tribe hopes to negotiate a new agreement with the state and plans to fight any changes in law, The Havre Daily News reported.
