Gov. Bush supports repeal of slot machine law

Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) is negotiating a Class III gaming compact with the Seminole Tribe but he says he will support the repeal of a slot machine law that prompted him to talk with the tribe.

Voters in Broward County approved slot machines last November. So far, state lawmakers have failed to write the rules to regulate the use of the machines.

Nevertheless, Bush has to negotiate in good faith with the Seminoles. The Miccosukee Tribe has also requested negotiations for a Class III compact.

But Bush is now saying he will support the repeal of the law as long as lawmakers write the regulations first. "Having said that, you could implement it and then put it back on the ballot -- another constitutional amendment -- and that would be fair game," he said, the Associated Press reported.
