Tribe's survey shows opposition to casino bid

printer friendly
The Buena Vista Rancheria of Me-Wuk Indians released a survey that shows 51 percent of local voters opposed the tribe's proposed casino.

Another 40 percent said they supported the casino while 8 percent said they didn't know.

The tribe is proposing a $200 million, 245,000-square-foot casino with 2,000 slot machines. The casino would be located on about 15 acres on the rancheria.

The National Indian Gaming Commission has said the rancheria qualifies as Indian lands under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. Officials in Amador County filed a lawsuit to challenge the status of the rancheria.
