State seeks to delay Northern Arapaho gaming

The state of Wyoming is seeking to delay the Northern Arapaho Tribe from offering Class III gaming on the reservation.

The tribe won a major court victory that allows the "full gamut" of Class III games. State officials subsequently said they would not challenge the decision [Wyoming governor accepts Indian gaming decision].

But state attorney general Pat Crank now plans to ask the court to order the parties into negotiations for a compact. The whole basis for the lawsuit was that the state wouldn't agree to the compact and the state was found to be in bad faith [Wyoming tribe wins Class III gaming case again].

Tribal officials said they were surprised to learn of the state's strategy. They plan to fight efforts to delay Class III gaming at $10 million casino that is under construction.
