A resident of Grand Forks, North Dakota, has started a petition in hopes of stopping the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa's proposed casino.
Jerry Hjelden hopes to gather enough signatures to convince city officials not to support the project. So far the council has expressed tentative support.
The tribe already operates a casino on its reservation. Other tribes in the state and in the region oppose non-reservation casinos.
