Ex-casino employee challenges tribe's sovereignty

printer friendly
A former employee of the Mohegan Tribe's casino is going to the Connecticut Supreme Court to challenge the tribe's sovereignty.

Brad Beecher is suing to speak freely about the regulation of the tribe's casino and the tribe's gaming practices. He says he was fired for uncovering alleged illegal activity at the casino. He is fighting the tribe's effort to help another tribe open a casino in Washington and has questioned the tribe's purchase of a race track in Pennsylvania.

A lower court dismissed Beecher's case on the grounds of sovereign immunity. The Supreme Court agreed to hear the case and two other tribal immunity cases.
