Thanks to Indian gaming, the Grand Ronde Tribes of Oregon have shared $30 million in casino profits with the local community.
The tribe signed a compact with the state in 1994. It requires the tribe to share 6 percent of yearly net casino profits with nonprofit organizations in an 11-county area.
The Spirit Mountain Community Fund has distributed $30 million in the 10 years since the signing of the compact. This year alone, the tribe gave $3.4 million to various organizations.
