Mechoopda Tribe releases plans for casino

The Mechoopda Tribe of California has released a draft environmental assessment for its proposed casino.

The tribe is planning a $80 million, 42,000-square-foot casino on about 645 acres near a highway intersection. Since the tribe obtained the land after winning back its federal status, the land qualifies for gaming if it is taken into trust, the National Indian Gaming Commission has said [Penny Coleman Letter].

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is in the process of acquiring the land in trust. The assessment was prepared as part of the process.
