Caifornia Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) is being urged to reject compacts for two casinos after voters rejected the projects.
In Yuba County, voters rejected the Enterprise Rancheria casino 51.8 percent to 48.2 percent. In Amador County, voters rejected any new casino developments by an overwhelming 84.5 percent.
The Ione Band of Miwok Indians is seeking to build a casino in the county.
Despite the rejections, leaders of each tribe say they will press on. But opponents say Schwarzenegger has to pay attention to local views. He issued a proclamation that says he will not sign compacts for non-reservation casinos without local support.
