BIA approves Forest County Potawatomi compact

printer friendly
The Bureau of Indian Affairs approved the Forest County Potawatomi Tribe's gaming compact with the state of Wisconsin.

The compact is the second to be negotiated between the tribe and the state. The state Supreme Court invalidated the first one, saying Gov. Jim Doyle (D) overstepped his bounds by allowing more Class III games under a perpetual agreement.

The new compact is limited to 25 years but doesn't speak to the Class III issue. The tribe will still share revenues with the state -- an estimated $750 million over the term of the compact.
