Tribes in the Phoenix, Arizona, area are expanding their casinos with hotels, resorts and other attractions aimed at bringing in more business to the reservation.
The Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation just opened a 247-room hotel, the first on the reservation. The tribe already operates a golf course, RV park and outdoor venue near the casino.
The Gila River Indian Community opened its resort three years ago. In January 2006, the tribe will open the Rawhide Wild West Town after moving it from Scottsdale.
"I think it's just a perfect time," Sheila Morago, the executive director of the Arizona Indian Gaming Association, told the Associated Press. "The casinos are doing well. They are stable. ... There are huge opportunities with things like hotels and golf courses."
