Letter: Lobbyists and lawyers hurting tribes

printer friendly
"The letter sent from the New Mexico Indian Gaming Association is contrary to the written position of some of its members who are supporting the Pueblo of Jemez. It's also out of step with the National Indian Gaming Association's position on off-reservation Indian gaming and the position of the National Congress of American Indians.

The Pueblo of Jemez is applying for permission to have a site where it could open a casino, like other tribes who are fortunate enough to have a good location on their current reservations.

We are disappointed that lobbyists and lawyers advising the New Mexico Indian Gaming Association have chosen to adopt some of the "Indian tribes vs. Indian tribe" and the "haves vs. the have nots" tactics that have received so much criticism in Washington, D.C., this past year."
