Column: Lac du Flambeau Band sued over casino deal

printer friendly
'It was a bet that never had much chance of paying off, and just like a bad gambler, the Lac du Flambeau Chippewa tribe is trying to find a way to cut its losses.

Only the tribe has again rolled snake eyes, angering one of its key partners in its failed bid to launch a floating casino near Cancun, Mexico.

The investor, Stephen Panzarella, slapped the tribe with a lawsuit charging the Indian government with breach of contract and extortion.

The suit alleges the tribe tried to sell the casino boat covertly in a deal that would have allowed the Lac du Flambeau to invest in a proposed casino in Mississippi while leaving its non-Indian investors in dry dock."
