Business leaders hear about Cowlitz Tribe's casino

printer friendly
Business leaders in Clark County, Washington, heard about the Cowlitz Tribe's proposal for a $510 million casino resort.

Philip Harju, a tribal member and former county prosecutor, said the project will bring benefits to the region. He promised jobs and revenues.

Craig Rowland, a casino opponent, presented another viewpoint. He said the casino will harm the economy and lead to gambling addiction.

The tribe was recognized through the Bureau of Indian Affairs process in 2000. The tribe is seeking approval to acquire 152 acres for an initial reservation under an exception in the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
