Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle (D) and the state's Democratic Party have accepted more than $1 million in contributions from gaming tribes and gaming interests, according to The Badger Herald.
Doyle has taken more than $90,000 from gaming interests linked to the Menominee Nation. The tribe needs his approval to open an off-reservation casino in Kenosha.
Doyle also has taken $250,000 from the Forest County Potawatomi Tribe, whose leaders oppose the Menominee casino. The Potawatomis, along with three other successful gaming tribes, gave $1.23 million to the Democratic National Committee in 2002, most of which was funneled back to Wisconsin Democrats.
