Connecticut tribes benefit from out-of-state gamblers

Connecticut's two federally recognized tribes see more than 40 percent of their revenues from out-of-state gamblers, according to a study from the Center for Policy Analysis at the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth.

Residents of Massachusetts and Rhode Island are the biggest out-of-state spenders, the study said. Both states have some gaming options but are considering proposals to expand gaming.

The biggest chunk comes from Massachusetts, where residents gambled $889.3 million in Connecticut and $190.2 million in Rhode Island. Rhode Islanders gambled $322.5 million in Connecticut and $257.4 million in their own state.

Mohegan Sun casino and Foxwoods Resort Casino see $1.1 billion from in-state gamblers. The tribes return the favor by spending $175 million on local businesses.
