Internet gaming bills include some exemptions

printer friendly
Two bills that would ban Internet gaming include exemptions for certain types of gaming, The Hill newspaper reports.

Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Virginia) introduced H.R.4777, the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act, while Rep. Jim Leach (R-Iowa) is sponsoring H.R.4411, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. The bills seek to crack down on the estimated $12 billion overseas gaming industry.

Both measures contain exemptions so that states can conduct lotteries on the Internet. Goodlatte's bill also includes provisions to allow tribes to legalize Internet wagers. Leach's bill carves out an exemption for intratribal transactions.

Both measures also exempt fantasy sports betting and interstate pari-mutuel betting on horse races.
