Officials in Lima, Ohio, are working out a casino deal with the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma.
The tribe asked the city for a memorandum of understanding to cover various aspects of the casino development and operation. Mayor David Berger said any agreement will have to be approved by the city council.
The tribe is eyeing several sites throughout Ohio and has filed a land claim. The tribe wants to settle the lawsuit for gaming rights, a tactic that would be barred under a bill pending in the Senate.
