Tracking casino proposals across Indian Country.
Rep. Gene Taylor (D-Mississippi) said voters in Jackson County should have a say in the off-reservation casino being proposed by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

The tribe owns 100 acres in Ocean Springs near a major interstate. The tribe recently filed an application to acquire the land for gaming purposes.

Taylor said a local vote is needed even if a final decision on the issue will be made by the federal government and the state governor.

Ocean Springs is more than 200 miles from the tribe's reservation.
