GOP Senate candidate gambled under fake name

printer friendly
The Republican U.S. Senate from Connecticut is being urged to quit the race because he gambled under a fake name at the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation's casino in the 1990s.

Alan Schlesinger said he registered at Foxwoods Resort Casino under a fake name to protect his privacy. During the time, he served as a state legislator and as mayor of Derby.

But a former state police officer who worked on casino enforcement claims Schlesinger used the fake name to avoid being identified as a card counter. Bradley Beecher later went to work for the Mohegan Tribe but was terminated in a high-profile dispute.

Schlesinger acknowledges he used to be a regular blackjack player. He said he had been asked, in the past, not to play at the casinos because he was considered a card counter.
