Agua Caliente compact a template for others

printer friendly
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) intends to use a compact he signed with the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians as a template for future deals, tribal chairman Richard Milanovich said.

Milanovich told Team 2006, a group of seven tribes in Southern California, that negotiations will be based on the deal he announced with the state on Tuesday. "They cannot cherry pick,'' he said, The Palm Springs Desert Sun reported.

The compact authorized up to 5,000 slot machines in return for a share of revenues [PDF: Amendments]. It requires state legislative approval and federal approval.
