United Keetoowah Band seeks casino endorsements

The developer behind the United Keetoowah Band's proposed casino in Fort Smith, Arkansas, is seeking endorsements from local groups.

Bennie Westphal already has the support of the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce and other business groups. Now he wants to sign a legal agreement with the city of Forth Smith to hold himself and the tribe accountable for their casino plans.

The tribe is planning a $131 million casino and hotel on 10 acres on the city's downtown waterfront. The tribe submitted an off-reservation application to the Bureau of Indian Affairs to use the land for gaming purposes.
