NIGC to make changes to web site after hacks

printer friendly
The National Indian Gaming Commission will be making improvements to its web site after it was hacked twice in the last month.

A Turkish Muslim group claimed responsibility for the hacks, which the NIGC described as cosmetic. "This incident has in no way compromised the content of NIGC's website or our networks and the Commission is moving swiftly to resolve this issue," the agency said yesterday.

The NIGC plans to move its site to a new server over the next week. The agency's IP (Internet Protocol) address currently points to Northern Valley Communications, a hosting company based in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

NIGC is an independent agency of the Interior Department. It was excluded from the computer shutdown order that has kept the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Office of Special Trustee off the Internet since December 2001.
