Oregon tribe not worried about off-reservation bills

printer friendly
The Warm Springs Tribes of Oregon say Congressional efforts to restrict off-reservation gaming won't affect plans for a casino.

H.R.4893, which failed in the House last week, and S.2078, which is being held up in the Senate, bar future off-reservation casino proposals. But both measures contain a "grandfather" clause to preserve existing applications.

The cut-off date in the House bill is March 7. The Senate bill's deadline is April 15.

The Warm Springs Tribe submitted an application before March 7. The casino has the support of the state governor because the tribe dropped consideration or an environmentally sensitive site.

Other tribes in Oregon oppose the proposal.
